I shouldn’t be surprised at the vitriol in these comments because it clearly shows that a lot of people didn’t really read the article. If people actually READ the piece, they will discover that the writer plainly states that the traffic light in and of itself isn’t racist. He was critiquing why a white friend had to describe the symbol in the traffic light as a white man. Because sometimes, a phrase or incident that seems harmless or inconsequential can actually have a lot of power or have unintended consequences. In this case, the issue is that white male dominance might be reinforced by the friend’s description of the symbol as a white man because white men rule our lives.
